As expectations for “Kitty Chowdhary 4” continue to soar. Recently, actress Sargan Mahata revealed that the blockbuster comedy franchise had a significant impact on shaping her career in Punjabi cinema long before she became a part of it. I played a role.
Speaking during the film’s Delhi promotion, Sargan said, reflecting on his personal connection with the franchise, that his journey with “Kitty Oye Jatta” began with the very first instalment. The actress said:
“In fact, with Carry On Jatta, you might think that I’m associated with the franchise because of the fourth instalment. But my connection with Carry On Jatta starts with Part 1, because the first Punjabi film I ever saw was Carry On Jatta.”
The Carry On Jatta franchise has had an impact on Sargan Mehta’s career.
The actress recalled that her grandmother had introduced her to the film, encouraging her to watch it after hearing positive reviews. According to Sarguna, the demand for the film was so high that tickets were unavailable even a few days after their release. The actress recalled:
My grandmother said to me, ‘There’s a Punjabi film. Would you like to see it?’ I said, ‘Who watches Punjabi films?’ She replied, ‘I’ve heard a lot of praise for this film.’ So we went to buy tickets on Friday, but we could only get tickets for Carry On Jatta on Tuesday. I was sitting in the theatre thinking, people are laughing uncontrollably. What a brilliant film. When I came out of the hall, I decided that I would make Punjabi films.”
Sargun Mehta said that the experience had a profound impact on her professional life and eventually led her to leave television to seek opportunities in Punjabi cinema.
“And I left my television career and moved on to Punjabi films. That’s why Carry On Jatta and Jatt & Juliet played such an important role in my life. They didn’t even know it, but by making those films, they helped to define my career.”
Reflecting on her casting in the upcoming film, the actress described it as a moment of fate. She said, “To this day, being a part of Carry On Jatta 4 feels surreal. So when I got the call for Carry On Jatta 4, I thought it was a manifestation that had come true.”
Sargun also spoke about the scale of the franchise and the opportunity to work with some of the biggest stars of Punjabi cinema.
” And in such a big franchise, you don’t ask “What’s the script?” or “What’s my role?” The film has so many big stars and everyone has done a brilliant job.”
Sargun Mehta wanted to make a film with these Punjabi artists.
She went on to recall how, at the start of her career, she had hoped to work with leading Punjabi artists including Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal and Amarinder Gill.
“When I entered the industry, someone asked me who I wanted to work with. I said, “I don’t know many heroes.” I had only seen two or three Punjabi films, so I knew Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal and Amrinder Gill. I said, “These are the three heroes I want to work with.” Then I was asked, ‘Why would they do a film with you?“ I replied, ‘Why wouldn’t they?” I was living in my own delusional world and look, they are doing films with me today.”
Speaking to Newswire, the actress said, “There are some films like that; when you’re feeling bored, that’s the kind of film I’d like to watch, That’s enjoyable, full of comedy, and a film I can watch 20-25 times without getting tired. I feel that “Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 4” is that kind of film. So, for me, being a part of such a film is a big deal in itself and I’m very excited to be a part of it.”
